Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?

I’ve been writing since I was 15 years old. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart and we have 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. It wasn’t until 2002 when I signed my first contract and in the last 10 years I’ve had 66 publications under the names of Sherry Derr-Wille and Shari Dare.

Please tell us your latest news!

I just had my 66^th book published under the Sherry Derr-Wille name. I also have a Shari Dare book coming out in the near future, although I don’t have a release date yet.

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?

I’m what is called a ‘pantser’. In other words, I write by the seat of my pants. I have a general idea about my characters, but once they take over, I no longer have any control over them.

How does your family feel about having a writer in the family?

My husband has come to tolerate my writing. My girls acknowledge it, but they don’t like to talk about it. Two of my grandsons actually go to signings with me.  Do they read your books? Here and there all of them with the exception of the three youngest grandchildren have read my books. My son will read anything by Sherry Derr-Wille, but don’t ask him to read Shari Dare.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

When I was a sophomore in high school the teacher said anyone who got an A on the first test could sit in the back of the room and write for a year. No one told me to stop the assignment and forty years later I learned I was the only one who enjoyed it.  By that time it was too late, I was hooked. BTW that teacher still buys and reads my books.

Do you write full time?

I’d like to say that I do, but really and truly I’m retired full time.

What did you do before you became a writer? Or still do?

I worked as a store clerk, a travel agent, a dispatcher, a receptionist and an administrative assistant. Just recently I have started editing for 3 e-book publishers and mentoring new authors.

Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?

     My next Shari Dare book is called MAN IN THE FOREST. It’s the story of a wood nymph who, due to her compassion, has lost her powers and fallen under the spell of a human man. Are they the hope for the future or will they bring their worlds to a crashing halt.

When you have writer's block how do you break free?

I work on so many books at once, I just change gears and work on something else?

Historical

When did you first decide to submit your work?

I’ve been submitting ever since I graduated from high school in 1964. I can literally paper the house in the rejections.

Please, tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step.

I have a feeling it was my ego that pushed me into publication. My goal was always to be a published author and hold my own book in my hands. I’m still excited every time I hold the first copy of one of my books.

What was your first published work and when was it published?

The first book to actually be published was SUMMER’S CHILD published by Whiskey Creek Press. It came out on June 16, 2003, the same day our twin grandsons, Tanner and Tyler were born.

1.] You work for a very unique family. How do you view your sisters in light of their recent discoveries?

What can I say they’re my sisters? I do think the fact they’re running around like they invented sex. I mean I’ve been sexually active since I was eighteen. I know they’re different from me, since they didn’t come into heat until they were in their thirties. They certainly missed out on a lot of great times.

2.] Since your father and sisters are werewolves, do you have the same tendencies?

          As the third child of a werewolf and a human, I’m completely human. I do have psychic powers. I guess that’s why my parents named me Clarity.

3.] What are your views about sex?

Sex is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I’ve had a good time, but not until I went away to college. Once I got out from under Mommy & Daddy’s thumb, I’ve learned what it means to be a human woman. I’ve enjoyed sex with several of my boyfriends, but I don’t go around flaunting it to everyone in sight.

4.] You are a very beautiful young woman, do you have any plans to get married?

Of course I do, someday, but that day is somewhere in the future. I haven’t found the right person yet. Maybe I’ll never will, but I don’t plan to stop looking until Mr. Right walks into my life.

5.] As a Blue Moon Princess, do you feel threatened by the Beta’s in the same way as your sisters?

I don’t fear them at all. What do I have to worry about? They’re looking for a female werewolf to continue their line. Being completely human, I doubt I have anything to offer them.

Thank you for having me here today.  I write adult entertainment, erotica, with elements of the paranormal in each story so far that may tend to get a bit on the wild side from time-to-time.  I really enjoy the freedom writing this genre in the aspects of a no holds barred; my imagination has no restriction on where it can take my characters or where my characters can take me in their fantasies.

          I’m co-authored the rewrite for HUMAN TOUCH with Honey Jans, who also wrote Book 2 in the Blue Moon Magic Series. It’s a story about the future, how the world is handling over-population and about cloning. We hope to have some good news very soon.  I also have in the works a story called CARNIVAL: THE GUARDIAN, which is a fallen angel shape-shifting erotica that I hope to have finished within the year. Honey is considering doing a follow up to this story as well.

          I also have a few on my back list that will be ready for rewrites and expansions, then hopefully a new home.

Tell us about your newest release.

The authors of the BLUE MOON MAGIC series are excited and patiently waiting for the four books to come out in one print volume for our readers from MuseIt Up Publishing.  Of course, the individual books are currently available in ebook versions from Loose-Id.

     In BY THE BLUE MOON, Book 1 of Blue Moon Magic, Chastity is finding that there isn't enough time in the day for sex...without or without a partner. Justin is more than happy to help her out, especially when her wolfen instincts are about to kick into high gear. There's a lot of howling through the night, and Chastity's not so sure she wants to be mated with Justin.

Finding a genie’s lamp was more than Gabby could wish for. Believing she doesn’t deserve to love again, Gabby Adams gets a second chance to find love and happiness with only one wish. GABBY’S SECOND CHANCE is the second in the Lacey’s Lamp series from Muse it Hot Publishing and came out in February 2012.

Is there anyone who really mentored or inspired you to keep writing until you were finally published?

          I would have to say the group of writers I kept around me were a great inspiration and a wonderful support system. We were all looking to get published at the same time, so there was a lot of support for everyone.

          I’ve since moved from that area and am involved with a great group of authors in the Oklahoma Outlaws organization (OKRWA). They keep me on my toes and accountable for my writing.

I see you’ve brought some guests with you today from BLUE MOON MAGIC…and a mighty sexy one at that. 

          LOL, oh yah.  Justin and Chastity just couldn’t let me come here without them tagging along. Besides how do you say no to a pair of werewolves? LOL

Justin, how did you ever get hooked up with a woman like Chastity?

          Justin: I really didn’t have a choice. She was promised to me the minute she was born. It’s the way of the wolfen clans to stay with tradition…

          Chastity: Don’t let him fool ya. He’s full of b.s. … if it wasn’t for Daddy he wouldn’t have had a job at Langford & Langford, and he wouldn’t have been assigned my babysitter!

Well, it sounds like the two of you have differences of opinion on that. I wonder, do you remember your first meeting?

          Chastity: I was, ah, in the middle of a very important assignment when my sister, Charity, told me Daddy wanted to see me in the board room right away. So I did what any self-respecting daughter would do…I pulled up my panties and hurried to see what he wanted.

          Justin:  Let me just say, if the scent of near orgasm could be bottled and sold, she would have had the market on it. I could smell her moments before she entered the room. And that darn little buzzing egg was still working her...

          Chastity:  Hey! You have no right …

          Justin: See how prickly she gets when that comes up? Good thing I took care of it when the meeting ended. You loved that elevator ride, didn't you Chas?

Hmm…my mind is playing overtime with that one. I think we should get back to Debi.

          Chastity:  Another pure human stealing my thunder. (Sigh)…oh well what’s a half-breed to do.  Go ahead, I’m sure she’ll be entertaining.

          Justin:  Now, now Chastity. Don’t get your fur ruffled. Ms. Wilder told our story after all and we owe it to her to continue with the interview.

Do you have a ritual when it comes to writing? Example….get coffee, blanket, paper, pen, laptop and a comfy place.

          Not really. It depends on my mood I guess. Sometimes I get a lot done by sitting in front of the tv with a movie as background noise. It all depends on what my muse is telling me and in what direction. She’s pretty sporadic as well.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

          Writers block is the worst and I’ve experienced more times than I’d have wanted to. But, you just work your way through it and get back to business.

          Also, sometimes, my characters stop communicating with me (which was not the case with Chastity or Justin, they had a lot to say). It’s those times that I really struggle with getting something done or even finished, which is the case with CARNIVAL. Salene and Samuel are very slow at revealing their story to me, and it can be frustrating. So, I patiently wait until the next morsal of information comes my way.

Do your books have a common theme or are they all different?

          I love, love, love writing paranormal stories. There seems to be some sort of paranormal element in them, whether it be shape-shifting, spirits, magic…anything that isn’t “normal” can show up in my stories.

Please tell us your latest news!

I have a new suspense romance novel, Finding Kennedy, being released with Total E-Bound in September and, most importantly, I became a grandmother this past April to the most precious little boy, Carsyn.

Please describe your writing environment.

A desk in the corner of the living room with the radio tuned into the classic rock station for mood writing. It’s also very cluttered. My apartment is clean and organized but my desk is a post-hurricane disaster but yet, I still know where everything is located…usually.

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?

Yes I do. I have index cards and each character, even the secondary ones, have their own card with personality traits and physical attributes listed. It keeps me in order and gives me reminders of eye color, body build and little tidbits of each character.

What main genre do you write in?

Romance is the umbrella genre and my writing styles vary from sweet all the way to four flame erotic. I did the erotic romance as a challenge to myself but am returning to the sweeter romance that we all grew up with. I find that specific genre is my comfort zone and really gets my creativity moving.

How does your family feel about having a writer in the family? Do they read your books?

They have always been supportive of my career and the time it took to get this far. As for reading what I write… my daughters love reading my romance novels and my son, well, he is a boy and has no clue as to what lies in between the pages of any of my books.

What are your hobbies?

Aside from reading and writing, I love to cook and bake. When the kids still lived at home I would make everything from scratch and experiment new recipes. It’s very therapeutic and relaxing to make a mess in the kitchen and see your family appreciate your hard work.

It was during my freshman year of high school. I had an English teacher who pushed me and always criticized my writing composition. While her words seemed harsh at the time, I look back now and see how she saw potential in me. At that moment, I knew I wanted to be a writer and published author just to prove her wrong and show the world I had talent.

Do you write full time? What did you do before you became a writer? Or Still do?

I am fortunate that I am able to write full time as well as other industry titles. In the fall/winter of 2011, I quit my part time job to focus solely on writing, whether novels or online content.

I used to work for a newspaper (almost 13 years as a staff writer) and most recently, I worked at a non-profit camp for special needs children and adults as an office administrator assistant.

Do you have a specific writing style?

Not really. Many authors are branded with a specific genre but I am all over the romance board with my sweet to erotic tones of writing. I love to challenge myself and have proven that with my prolific writing abilities.

What do you do on a typical writing day?

No sleep, tons of caffeine and always having one of my two laptops or cell phone attached to my hip. I have email alerts on my cell phone and it’s constantly ‘dinging’.

When I do sleep normal- I wake by 6am and, with coffee in hand, sit at my laptop and sift through emails for about an hour then I set off to write my next WIP or online advice article pertaining to relationship and love. It’s nothing for me to sit there for a total of 16-20 hours a day with other small activities in between but I have recently decided to set aside one day per week as a Non-Work/Email Day. The first was tedious but I survived.

Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?

This is from my WIP, The Butler's of Willow Creek. A series of historical western romance centered around the small Colorado town of Willow Creek, pre-1900.

Excerpt: 

     Cody resolved to climbing into his empty bed, all the while thinking of Lydia sleeping a mere ten-feet from him; his bedroom, adjacent to where Lydia slumbered in Bethany’s old room. Though he had spent many hours sharing Lydia’s bed above the saloon, being within this proximity now, in his own home, propelled a renewed sexual awakening.

     He tossed and turned for what seemed a lifetime. His thoughts bargained between images of Lydia nestled deep under the covers to how his family’s reception of her presence in the family home would be regarded. Cody knew Daniel would stand behind him. Their father’s reaction would be the hardship.

     Cody pictured Bertrand ranting and raving, using obscenities and condemning Lydia and her profession. Forget the fact, Bertrand called upon the establishment on a daily basis, he would be furious with one of Madame Love’s ladies being under his roof. It was plumb perfect for him to go the Willow Creek Saloon and call on the women and flaunt his indiscretions, but to bring one of those soiled doves into his domicile.

     Cody drove thoughts of his father’s tirade aside and flipped to his back. Laying a forearm over his eyes, he reconciled he had to endeavor sleep and catch a few hours of slumber. Daybreak came early, and he knew in a few hours when his father woke up to find Lydia here; all damnation would be volatile.

     He knew if he looked to the window, he would see the first break of dawn illuminating on the horizon. Shutting his eyes, Cody envisioned Lydia slipping into Bethany’s old bed.  His sister hadn’t slept in the bed for close to six months now. The youngest of the Butler offspring, Bethany was proven the most stubborn. She wanted to be treated just like one of the boys and did everything in her power to do so. From hauling bales of hay from the loft of the barn to the corral to feed the horses to being included in on the branding of the cattle, Bethany was not about to be out-worked or underestimated.

     Leaving ideas of his sister behind, Cody visualized Lydia curled up, in the sweet manner he had seen her in dozens of times when she would drift off in his arms after they would talk in the early morning hours at the saloon in her room. Engaging notions of Lydia sleeping settled Cody’s overburdened mind. From his father’s forthcoming outburst to Lydia’s predicament with Charlie, Cody began to drift off.

     When he thought he had only just fallen asleep, Cody was awakened by a crashing sound. Jolted up in bed, he found his orientation in a haze of exhaustion and sat up. It only took him a few moments to grasp his mental state.
